Aleksey Lapin was born in 1988, in Tomsk (USSR). He spent his childhood between Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Italy. He received a Bachelor of Art from Bolzano Free University in 2010. After that, he started his film-studies in Michael Haneke’s directing-class at the Vienna Film Academy. He made several short films, which were shown at many international film festivals. 2021 his first feature documentary film "Krai" premiered in Viennale and in the international competition of DokLeipzig. In 2023 he founded together with Claudia Joldes JOL Filmproduktion an independent film production company based in Vienna.
